On my way to the Netherlands last Wednesday (for the ‘Shadow Dance‘ group show in Amersfoort) I decided in the last minute  to set up a SPEED SHOW on short notice in Amsterdam for the following day. At the end of the 6h train ride I had all artist emailed and confirmed, speed curated!

Constant Dullaart picked a great Internet-shop remotely via Google Streetview (oh man, we need that in DE finally too!), Peter Luining checked it out and fetched me a phone number. Thx for support! I called the guy the night before and all was set. Since the shop doesn’t sell anything else than voice and internet we had to bring our own drinks. :-)  (which he was cool with. Is that possible in NYC?!?)

Although the show was anounnced only one night in advance we had a fine crowd of visitors and lot’s of rain (which made everyone look at the art ;-). Thx to all for showing up on short notice! Thx to the artists! Thx to the ‘A.Internetcafe’-team!

Graffiti Analysis: POV Can is a low tech DIY spray can modification in which the LED light source doubles as video illumination and motion tracking input. The GML (.gml) data of the graffiti tags featured in the video can be downloaded here, and the Graffiti Analysis software and source code can be downloaded here. GA:POV Can was created in Vienna last week as part of the BLK River Festival.

How-To Guide:
Spray paint can + Flip Cam + magnetic wide angle lens + LED pen light + masking tape = Graffiti Analysis: POV Can

I make a smaller version of Tobi’s Foxbling in silver, here’s a process video I made about it for CRAFT.

I used rubber cement to affix the template to a piece of 18ga. silver sheet, and used a small saw to cut out the shape on top of a jewelry maker’s bench pin, which is that fork-shaped wooden surface you see in the video. Finish it up with files and a lot of sanding using a flex shaft and slotted mandrel. The same flex shaft can be fitted with any number of tools, like the tiny drill bit I used to drill the pendant’s jumpring hole. I got most of the tools and supplies for this project from Rio Grande, who also buys back my scrap metal.

I’d like to put these necklaces into production (and $upport Mozilla, natch), so if you’re interested in staying informed on the project, email me.
