Noisy Typer – a typewriter for your laptop.

Noisy Typer is a free piece of software which plays typewriter sounds as you type. It runs in the background and works with all applications ( email, web, word etc ). Key sounds include: letter keys, spacebar, backspace, carriage return and scroll up and down.

Noisy Typer is a FAT Lab speed project by Theo Watson.

OS X 10.9 Note: Noisy Typer still works with 10.9 but you need to enable the app to have access to the key press information. See this link for info. support.apple.com/kb/HT6026

The software is open source and made with openFrameworks version 0071.

      you can edit the sounds in the .app bundle to make it do whatever :)

      btw. on a qwertz keyboard you’ll need to type ‘qay123’ to quit it.

      The exit function (gaz123) does not work for me though, I had to “kill” the process with Activity Monitor

      Wonderful – great work!

      Some ideas for v2:
      – that heavy clunk when pressing the shift key
      – pulling out the paper and feeding a new one in: when cmd-tabbing to another program?

      But anyway… it’s excellent as it is already!

      I hate to be picky or pour cold water in the keys, but the bell should ding a few characters from the end of the line (as a warning), not on pressing Return.

      Cool though.

      The exit function is not working for me either, same problem as Beatriz. Running 10.6.8

      great application. using it right now actually, whilst on openframeworks. nice
      got an idea or two for another update

      • make it available in the toolbar.
      • let you choose different applications that you dont want it to affect

      other than those 2, i think this is amazing. and have passed this on to more people

      Very nice indeed ! Get it to work with the toolbar, and maybe a pref panel as well.

      This is a really handy thing, maybe a shortcut to disable sounds would be nice ?

      Love it so far, and yes: We really need a room full of Users typing on that sound !

      Just one suggestion: maybe have some sort of panel to increase the volume of certain sounds? As it is, some of them are rather quiet on my MacBook Pro, even though I have the sound all the way up. The click of keys and the return sounds are loud enough but the others are slightly or a lot softer. =)

      @summer seale, you can edit the mp3 sounds that are in NoisyTyper. Right click / ctrl click on the app and select ‘show package contents’ then look in Contents/Resources/

      @Theo Watson, Thanks! I didn’t think of that. I just emailed the author of the site/project (I guess) and asked about compiling it. I figured it would just be easier doing it via the code (as I’m learning XCode lately, btw), but I couldn’t get it to compile at all. Not sure why or what I’m doing wrong.

      I’ll try doing it via the package tho as that might be easier in the end. Though, it might be good for me to tinker with the source since I’m trying to learn how to program Cocoa anyway. =)

      @jj Activity Monitor ( in Applications/Utilities/ ) you can quit the process there.
