Noisy Typer is a free piece of software which plays typewriter sounds as you type. It runs in the background and works with all applications ( email, web, word etc ). Key sounds include: letter keys, spacebar, backspace, carriage return and scroll up and down.

Noisy Typer is a FAT Lab speed project by Theo Watson.

    funny app, nice sound but….
    the app stops working after you leave your computer for some time; happened to me 3 days in a row so no coincidence!
    even restarting the app is not possible anymore, you have to restart your computer, and that’s just too much…
    pity…

    I also have the problem of NoisyTyper stopping to make sounds suddenly. Restarting from Finder is not possible as the process itself continues to run.

    I’ve hacked together this little shell script which does the job of restarting NoisyTyper (at least for me) – maybe it’s useful for someone here as well:

    #!/bin/sh

    PID=`ps aux|grep -m 1 NoisyTyper.app|cut -d ‘ ‘ -f 5`
    echo “killing pid #”$PID
    kill $PID
    echo “restarting NoisyTyper”
    open /Applications/NoisyTyper.app

    Very cool app, makes programming a lot more fun :)

    Unfortunately the app stops working after a while. Restart from Finder not possible because the process keeps running, just the sounds stop.

    I’ve hacked together a tiny shell script to restart it, maybe it’s useful for some of you:

    #!/bin/sh

    PID=`ps aux|grep -m 1 NoisyTyper.app|cut -d ‘ ‘ -f 5`
    echo “killing pid #”$PID
    kill $PID
    echo “restarting NoisyTyper”
    open /Applications/NoisyTyper.app

  20. How do you uninstall the app? Can’t seem to find in in Applications. Thanks. M

    how about mouse? will it make a mouse noise? haha

    Very cool App! Only, it’s totally distracting to have the sound in Stereo. It’s kinda weird when you have external speakers on… Apart from that: Wow.

    While you’re at it, you can recreate the Apple Sound Set from some early OS X version which made sounds when dragging and dropping and so on. That’d be neat, retro-neat…
