Fake URL Trolling is super easy but very effective!

  1. Email/twitter/post a fake shocking story or breaking news to a friend/group.

  2. Make up a nice long URL (WordPress title style) to prolong the shock moment.

  3. The 404 will make the target wonder if the post was taken down or the link is just broken.

Imma let you finish Barbara Kisseler (Permanent Secretary of the State of Berlin), but i’ve had a little sippy sippy, so fffffats gonna get a little lippy lippy… WWKD: What would kanye do?

Somewhere amidst the boos and hisses, i had a moment of clarity. Despite all of our fffffuckery, I think GOOGLE just won Transmediale 10. First runner-up prize went to Google’s own Creative Lab Tech Lead, Aaron Koblin, for his collaboration with Daniel Massey that had something to do with a bicycle but sounded like a choir of intubated drunks.

And the Tranny Oscar went to Michelle Teran for her quite good and goodly Google-sponsored orgy of G-apps, Youtube and Google Earth. I think it was also an add for Mr.Goodbar, but I can’t tell for sure.

You probably won’t be surprised to hear that Google was a sponsor for Transmediale 10. Oh well… atleast they aren’t evil.

FAT is already hard at work on a sure-fire winner for TM11. See you next year Stephen!

The Los Angeles street artist known as Skullphone managed to get his iconic skull-holding-a-cellphone image to display on 10 prominent digital billboards throughout Los Angeles last week — leading some blogs to report that hed hacked into the signs. Alas, Clear Channel Outdoors, which owns the billboards, says no. "He paid to get it up," says spokeswoman Jennifer Gery. "It only ran for two days."

The hack was a hoax.  booooo.

I was genuinely excited there could have been a vulnerability that would put such a powerful communications medium into the hands of smart and determined people. But it’s still pay to say in the land of free speech. +1 for the cynics (Tobi)

Shared resources and public spaces, like our cities, the Internet and the media, are increasingly under attack from the forces of privatization, excess commercialization, censorship, bias and authoritarian control. To offset the inequalities caused by these forces, ordinary citizens are turning to humorous and socially provocative pranks, hacks, infiltration, urban modification and other disturbances to get their voices heard in public and the mass media. The Field Guide for Public Works will be an illustrated instructional guide designed to show citizens how to make tools and use techniques employed by artists and activists to express unpopular and marginalized “truths” and perspectives in the public sphere. Subjects and technologies covered in the Field Guide may include both social and physical engineering, like: corporate infiltration, mobile broadcasting, contagious media, hacking urban systems, on-line satire, ad busting, self publishing and more. From concept to implementation, students will work together with their instructors and peers to create all aspects of the Field Guide using open source software. Over the course of the semester, students will also work in small teams to create, execute and document their own public interventions with voluntary participation from the class and others. The Field Guide will also be an experiment in creating a “print on demand” book and releasing work into the public domain.
