In September FAT participated at “Meeting Hub“, a hacker’s festival arranged by Platform4. Platform4 is a non-profit art and technology organisation which runs a gigantic open-space in Aalborg, Denmark. Defnetly check it out when visiting Denmark!
The following projects were created with the help of Platform 4:
Geraldine Juárez tinkered a little mobile device – the FAT CRIER – to amplify information gathered from Twitter trough a megaphone so it can be brought it to the streets. The original FAT CRIER is a commissioned piece created for PLATFORM4 and will be installed on their warehouse for everyone to use. A second workshop is coming-up on the 22nd of October!!

Recent events have shown again that computer code and its power is still underestimated by the public and governments. The way software is written, it s quality, openess, closedness etc. has a very high impact on which way society is taking. Some small changes or features in code can result in an enormous loss of democratic values or lead to a hidden surveillance state. Because comparably only few people can read and understand code it is so important we communicate it, discuss it in public and make it art! :)
Congrats to the CCC for revealing and revers engeneering this incredible piece of software and to FAZ (a leading german news paper, circulation of 360.000) which went of the charts by printing 5 full pages assembler code. Awesome!
Germany’s Chaos Computer Club published the sourcecode for a piece of malware used by the German government to spy on citizens. The software was discovered in the wild and reverse engineered. It can be used to spy on or control remote PCs. Because of flaws in the software, anyone who was infected with this by German police was vulnerable to spying by “anyone on the street.” The German supreme court banned the use of trojans to spy on German citizens in 2008. ….

The Googlher is a device which plugs into your computer and triggers a bullet vibrator any time that Google pings your web browser (with the aid of The Googlher Firefox Add-on). By doing so, The Googlher translates Google’s pervasive reach into highly stimulating vibrations for vaginal or anal web browsing. Mistrust and fear Google’s omnipotent ways no longer as the web giant profoundly soothes, touches, and moves you. This is perhaps the biggest thing to happen to augmented reality since the invention of methamphetamine.
The Googlher was produced with both open source software and hardware. For full instructions on how to make your own, visit the instructions page.
The Googlher Firefox Add-on is based on Jamie Wilkinson’s Google Alarm.
