With Sundance coming up I’m trying to craft a good excuse for why all of our videos look like shit and are shot on $300 digital cameras. Here is what I’ve got so far, please chime in if you have additions:
The Pocket School of film:
A new form of American documentary cinema in which primary filming is done exclusively on consumer grade digital point and shoot cameras that can fit comfortably in ones pocket. The ability to never be without camera results in a higher likelihood of capturing informal everyday moments that would otherwise be missed. Filmographers of the Pocket School should ideally be able to produce a camera and begin filming in less the 10 seconds at all times. For examples if this form see the work of the Graffiti Research Lab.
The FFFFFire FFFFFox extension enables you to reprezent F.A.T. to the fffffullest by replacing every ‘f’ with ‘fffff’. Help subtly spread the word about fffffat by installing it on every machine you come across………. it’s fffffire.
The first! of many more to come in a series of audio releases from FAT LAB.
Straight from South 4th st to your ear comes the Jump-Off Street Beat Mixtape:
74 minutes, 102 mb.
Mixed live on a Sunday afternoon by B3nn3tt4$enat3 and Mike McGill. Boogie, disco, r&b, electro and freestyle jams, dedicated to your mama. No samples cleared, 100% bump, low carbs and a few white boys, sleazy synthesizers and packed dancefloors. Body2Body2Africa and back to the space station; anticipation, triumph, lessons learned.
(this is a little something Mike and I have been working on since he moved to my block earlier in the summer. Catch Mike every Friday from 10:30pm-1am on his show “A Downtown Affair” on WNYU 89.1FM in New York City, or at WNYU.org, and keep an ear to the FAT for more collabo-jawns to come. And always stay tuned to the Music page for the FATtest jams 24/7.)
