As much as I like it, more than any other site the commenters on YouTube can be surprisingly, well, horrible. In my research I found this was true even on videos of the highest-of-high culture. Operas and symphonies had the same hostile, petty, and juvenile comments as nearly any other video on the site.
The commentary track I made for this video is literally the commentary from the original Shostakovich, Symphony No. 5 video, read aloud by actors.
Created for the Artists’ Space WebCast for January 2009. Thanks to Joseph Del Pesco, Scott Vermeire, Cynthia Yardley, Jeff Crouse, and Christina Kral.
After enjoying everyones wicked mixes (loving evan’s and fru’s 08 mixes) I felt it was only right to throw up a mix minutes before 2009.
As I was putting the tracks together I realized that 90% of the music I have been listening to in 2008 was Three Six Mafia – so here is a good representation of my musical year in 2008 – a mix of all 36 tracks.
Most of these were discovered via the 36 player so some of the mp3 are of questionable audio quality. Hope you like it – it starts a little gangster and ends a little horror.
This year i saw RZA twice and for the first time ever. Off the chain and absolutely dope! This event obvioulsy affect substantially my music habits, playlists and finally hip hop took over my Songbird gradually.
This mix is a begginer selection of the tracks that got me into hip hop and made me give up to it! It includes some incredible new discoveries of mexican hip hop + cumbia + favela funk stuff.
Thanks to Evan for setting me up with the essentials and instigate my definitive conversion!
Get the HHNovice mix!:
Get it while it’s hot: Frumix 2008 (don’t shuffle, there’s an ordering here).
I’ve been working on this one for a while. Not because it’s so great, but because with my own convention of only including music that is new to me since the previous mix, it can be hard to get to a full 10 or 15 songs.
Don’t hate cuz Snoop snuck on or cuz KRS is even preachier in his old age; the Kanye track you’ve never heard before absurd Ghotsface flow-fest make it worth dropping before the year is out. Props to Evan and Bennet for the Knife and J. Valentine tracks that I never would have heard otherwise.
If that’s not enough, there’s also a new personal best of Redman mix (again, no shuffling).
If you’re a fan of FunkDoc then there’s not much new there. Otherwise, you’ve been sleeping, so wake up!
PPPS UPDATE: Audacity/LAME actually wrote out the MP3 frame headers and length tag to be all messed up, so the first version of the new Frumix 2008 would have given you issues in most MP3 players. That’s been all fixed now using a fix I found on the web.
